Can you guess my power colour?
What about finding your power colour? That is a little more difficult. Because what exactly is a power colour? A power colour is NOT necessarily your favourite colour, but it can be. My favourite colour is purple, but my power colour is definitely this burgundy/red wine/eggplant sort of colour you see here. A power colour gives you confidence every step you take because you know it complements your complexion, personality and attitude in the most perfect way. A power colour is a colour you feel so damn good in that nothing in the world fucking stop you when you are wearing it. A power color is something you can dress head to toe in and it doesn’t look weird, unnatural or over the top. Power colours cannot be white, black or grey. Those are not colours. Those are lack of colour. This is my world and these are my rules. Bring on the POWER COLOURS.
My power colour evolved over time, but has been a lifetime in the making. Purple really is my most favourite colour of all colours. When I was a little girl I wanted to be a purple dog when I grew up. However, I often find purple too trendy to wear and sometimes a bit much for my architecture day job were everyone ONLY wears grey and black, full stop (clearly I’ve accepted the fact I will not be a purple dog when I grow up). This burgundy hue started out as a love affair with a lipstick colour that really suited my complexion and colouring. It slowly exploded from there as I begun to gather pieces over the years in this same exact colour. Now I have many many articles of clothing in this same hue that I incorporate into my daily wardrobe on a weekly basis.
So now . . . what is a nail polish colour or lipstick colour that you are very drawn to? I would be shocked if whatever it was wasn’t your power colour. I am ALWAYS drawn to deep purples and burgundies when I get my nails done. It’s like a sickness. I also cannot stop buying purple and burgundy lipsticks, this is the same sickness. Next time you go to put on that bright coral nail polish on your toes consider the possibility of dressing in that colour head to toe! Maybe start out slow with just a dress, or a top. You really have to be prepared for some serious LOOKS with 5 layers of the same colour on while trolling down the streets. So start out slow and see where your power colour takes you.
When we decided on a location for this shoot I wanted a space where I looked as powerful as my outfit made me feel. Just put me on top of the Calgary Tower and call me Queen Drake. Unfortunately they have that spot reserved for terribly dancing rap prodigies. Nearly second best was this abandoned parkade, I mean… it’ll do. Sarah and I could see the Calgary Tower in the background so it was almost like we were on top of it. One day…
What would you think of seeing all of the NEAT crew rocking their power colours head to toe?! You know they all have one FOR SURE. I’m positive we can convince Suzanne to dress in full on bubble-gum pink!! She’ll do anything for an almond croissant. I’ll work on her.
Thank you Anne B for lending us your baby!!
