Going to a PARK event is always a special evening. Getting dressed up, hanging out with fashion lovers and seeing what some of the best Canadian fashion designers have to offer sounds like a pretty amazing way to spend a Saturday night. Now throw in champagne, pop-up shops and live music and you are speaking our language! PARK did just that this past Saturday with their PARKLUXE 2016 fashion and boy oh boy did they deliver.
If you haven’t heard of PARK yet allow us to introduce you. PARK, standing for Promoting Artists Redefining Kulture, serves as a platform for new (and not sometimes not so new) Canadian artists to showcase their amazing work and talent through fashion shows and events put on throughout the year. That is just a Coles notes version of what PARK is all about and doesn’t even begin to touch on how they have fostered a sense of community within Calgary let alone all that they have done for the creative arts in this city and country. Take a look at our previous posts on PARK to see some of the amazing events they have put on in the past.
But what we really want to talk about is PARKs most recent fashion show, PARKLUXE. It all went down on October 2 at the National Music Centre and was definitely the most fun we’ve had with our clothes on in a long time.
First let’s talk about the venue. The National Music centre is such a beautiful space in its own right. Add in beautiful creative people and beautiful clothes and you’ve got the most beautiful place in the whole goddamn world! It was like Narnia and Disneyland all rolled into one, pure magic. And can we just give a shout out to the models that did such an amazing job navigating all of those stairs, not a fall to be had. We can barely make it from the bedroom to the bathroom without a near fatal toe stub so bravo models, we salute you!
Now let’s talk about the designers that showed their work. The range was quite broad, with more established designers such as Paul Hardy present and accounted for, while newcomers like Okakie and Atelier by Ensemble Style killed it with their first collections! And each designer did not disappoint in ringing in Autumn/Winter either. Deep rich colours, thick knits and lot’s of texture seemed to prevail and left us wanting nothing more than these cool crisp days we’ve been having lately.
But don’t just take our word for it, feast your eyes on a few of the runway shots Kayla snapped to see all of the magic in action.
Overall the night was a total success and we were so happy we were there to experience it. If you love fashion, are looking for a way to support the arts community in Calgary or are just looking for something new and exciting to check out then we highly suggest you check out the next PARK event, you’ll be happy you did!
