Let it be known that this wasn’t the most relaxing Christmas Season of all time. It started out with the most wretched drive known to wo/man as it began to snow in Calgary on the 23rd of December. I know a lot of folks were heading home for the holidays that day, as well as the day after, and many didn’t make it there because of the bloody snow! This was just the beginning of many unforeseen events, ghost sightings and sleepless nights because of a crazy-eyed dingo. Here is how I survived…
Firstly I went for a lot of long winter runs. A nice long run always helps take my mind off of any troubles as well helps make room for the additional calorie packing, which is what the holidays are all about. If you don’t believe me you can take this up with Suzanne. She’s a professional holiday baker and eater.
Secondly I drown my sorrows in food and wine. I pounded cheese literally every second I wasn’t running. I ate so much cheese it would make any Parisian proud. I ate cheese ball, cheese dip, cream cheese, old cheddar, goat cheese, Canadian cheese, Manchego, French cheese, soft cheese, brie cheese, hard cheese and all the cheeses in between. Although I think I just listed them all so there really isn’t much in between.
Thirdly I slept a minimum of 12 hours a night. I would like to make this a nightly ritual, however work gets in the way. I slept so much that I woke up feeling more tired than when I sleep my regular 8 hours a night. I have no idea what the fuck is up with that. It could however be a result of all the cheese eating…
Lastly I came up with this outfit post for you all! These photos were taken at my parent’s acreage when we finally had a break in the clouds from the snow (and the cheese eating). I had to get extra creative with my winter layering as it was still cold as fuck. What I’ve found super fun to do this winter instead of purchasing new winter sweaters, shirts or dresses… is get a couple of oversized loose hanging tops and vests. This has allowed me to layer on top of what I already own and spruce up old dresses from past seasons. This Workhall cape shirt is PERFECT for exactly what I am speaking of. I have worn this piece over dresses, skirts and pant / top combos and it makes things that are old, new again. And don’t forget your favourite cat scarf 😉
Zara dress, Workhall becka shirt, Wilfred Free luciana jacket (also worn here), Burton all day long beanie, UGG bonham boots, Simons scarf (nothing similar will ever exist so just shop at Meowingtons)
These are a few of my survival tactics. Most of which I employ all year round if I’m faced with a stressful situation. I’d love to hear some tips from y’all? Do you have any great stress relievers I haven’t mentioned that are must do? I’d love to hear from you, please leave your comments below!
